"A PRINTED THING"

Architecture Project (AP) have produced a book entitled A Printed Thing to commemorate their twenty-first anniversary.

“When an architecture practice undertakes to commit itself to print, what is the result? Here is one, an architecture practice attempting to lay itself bare – open submissions, a project defined by its content. This then is the result. A ‘book’ of comment, theories, illustrations, photography, prose. An act of definition through experiment. A printed thing.”

THE VALLETTA WATERFRONT WINS A 2012 ULI GLOBAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

DENVER, Colorado (October 22, 2012) – The Valletta Waterfront has been awarded a 2012 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Global Award for Excellence. Widely acknowledged as the land use industry’s most prestigious recognition program, winners were announced on October 19th as part of ULI’s Fall Meeting in Denver. One of the 14 projects selected from nearly 200 entries throughout the world, Valletta Waterfront was recognised for its high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning, and management.

OCTOBER
AP TAKING PART IN INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ‘MODERN TRENDS IN NATIONAL ARCHITECTURE'

The Embassy of Malta in Denmark is participating in the International Exhibition of ‘Modern Trends in National Architecture’, in honour of United Nations’ Day. The event is being organised by the Danish Cultural Confederation of Foreign Societies (KUKS), whom his Royal Highness the Prince Consort is a patron of. The exhibition will be held at the City Hall of Copenhagen between 24th October and 3rd November and is open to the general public.

Through collaboration with the Embassy of Malta in Denmark, Architecture Project (AP), Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC), Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) and Il-Kamra tal-Periti (Malta Chamber of Architects and Civil Engineers) are contributing to the exhibition.

SEPTEMBER
AP’S LATEST PROJECT, FARSONS' NEW BREWHOUSE TO BE INAUGURATED TODAY

AP’s latest project, the new Farsons’ brewhouse will be inaugurated this evening by President George Abela. 

Since its formation 80 years ago, the Simonds Farsons Cisk brewery has sought to use its architecture to communicate its aspirations and corporate character. The new brewhouse seeks to provide an environment suited to the brewing of Farsons’ renowned products. The whole building acts as a container for the brewing process, housing its plant, brewing tuns and laboratories, and is wrapped in an unassuming industrial skin, a protective shell accommodating the complex programme while simultaneously assisting the environmental control of the interiors.

AP PARTICIPATING IN ISCEC MALTA MEETING

On May 25th AP will participate in the ISCEC Malta Meeting, where the topic of discussion is: Ports as New Magnets for Urban Sustainable Development. AP will present the topic, "The Architectural Practice of Regeneration".

AP LECTURING AT THE MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE IN WROCLAW, POLAND

On the 14th March, Architecture Project will be giving a lecture titled, ‘Valletta: Heritage, Climate and Identity – from Renaissance to Renzo Piano’ at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw, Poland. 


FEBRUARY
CITY GATE - A DIARY OF DEMOLITION

Bettina Hutschek’s experimental documentary “CITY GATE – a diary of demolition” will be screened at Architecture Project's Malta office between March 2nd – 23rd. The film was commissioned by AP to explore the formation of space not only through building, but also through removal.

JANUARY
AP TO DESIGN ECO-RESORT IN THE PHILLIPPINES

The London office of Maltese architectural design firm Architecture Project (AP) has been commissioned to prepare a masterplan and design by the Primer Group of Companies for an eco-resort in the mountain province of Sagada, central Luzon, one of the main islands of the Philippines Archipelago. The eco resort will be located at the top of a mountain range and will dominate the surrounding valleys which house small villages within a spectacular landscape of primary rainforest, rice terraces, cliffs, caves and waterfalls, providing ample opportunity for eco-adventures.
