Junior architects Daniel Darmanin and Paula Curmi followed a course offered by Heritage Malta in October 2008 entitled Caring for Historic Buildings which dealt with the issue of the restoration of old Maltese houses. Throughout the duration of the course, technical and practical issues on dealing with historic houses were tackled. A generic background of the history of restoration and conservation ethics was given as a foundation for the course development. The bulk of the programme was then made up of case studies of completed restoration projects, which broke down the successes and failures of past local restoration exercises.
